SIX ESSENTIAL COMMITMENTS FOR LEADERSHIP
By Rick Warren

As worship leaders, we tend to be better musicians than we are leaders. That is why we must never lose focus on how to grow and become the leader's God wants us to be in order to lead our ministries into the future. In this article, you will learn 6 essentials that I believe every worship leader must possess if we are to be effective leaders both now and in the future. These essentials include:

  • Vow to maintain integrity
  • Vow to be an encourager
  • Vow to never stop growing
  • and more!

What is the leadership edge that you need to sharpen? <Read the full article here>

CULTURE OF CRUCIAL: RECRUITING PEOPLE, NOT MUSICIANS
by Russ Hutto

One of The Journey's Worship Arts Team Core Values is: We care more about who you are than what you can do for us. That is one of the secrets to long-term volunteer involvement. While I don't fully embrace everything in this article (I don't like the word "need" - I prefer "opportunities to serve"), there are more than enough points here that I believe to my soul are critical in ensuring that your volunteers feel valued and will remain committed to your team! <Read more>

GOOD TO GREAT: ONSCREEN LYRICS
by Chris Moncus

The Holidays are here and you just can't wait to use that brand new Turkey lyric backdrop at the Sunday service, even if no one can read the lyrics you're singing!

Ok - so maybe you don't have a Turkey backdrop, but almost as important as the words we sing, is the way that we visually present those words to our congregations. After all, if the role of a worship leader is to help people experience God, the least we could do is not create anything that distracts people from experiencing God, like difficult to read or mundane lyric presentations. In this insightful post, Chris Moncus provides some great tips on how to make your onscreen lyrics really pop.

:: RECOMMENDED BOOK::

laws of lifetime growthThe Laws of Lifetime Growth: Always Make Your Future Bigger Than Your Past - Dan Sullivan

This great little book came across my desk about a month ago. And though it may only take you a day or two to read, don't miss out on the power of these principles. The reason I picked it up is right in the subtitle: Always Make Your Future Bigger Than Your Past.

As worship and arts team leaders, we cannot rest on the good things that our ministries have done in the past. Rather we must continually push forward, take new risks, and try even bigger things for God.

Here is the line that reached out and grabbed me made the whole book worthwhile: "If everything I've done so far is just the beginning, then what's next?"
